Introduction:
I grew up in Indianapolis and got my start in the heating/cooling industry in the early ‘70s, earning extra money by helping a close friend to install heating and air conditioning equipment on Saturdays. Both greatly enjoying the work and its challenges, and eager to learn more, I soon began working for the company full time. I received factory training on equipment, attended local vocational schools and utility company seminars, and became a licensed installer and service technician. During my eighteen years of employment, I gained experience in sheet metal fabrication, project supervision, calculated heating & cooling loads and air flows, system design and equipment selection. My family relocated to Albuquerque August of 1987, and began working for Anderson Air Corps as a full time sales/estimator. I found myself again active in the scouting program, this time on the other side of the fence, serving as a leader for the Pack and Troop that my two boys were in. My wife has also been active in the HVAC industry, for almost as long as I have, which can lead to some very interesting conversations. I enjoy the great outdoors, and hobby in photography and motorcycles. Working for Anderson Air Corps has provided me with an opportunity to further expand my knowledge and become involved with larger and more complex projects. Whether in Indianapolis or Albuquerque, I have found this to be true: People want to be warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and comfortable in their home and office. That’s part of what I do. This is a great business to be in.
Position / Title / Responsibilities:
As a salesman: To meet with and listen to homeowners, commercial property owners & tenants. To offer up solutions with options, along with an accurate cost estimate that would help satisfy their heating/cooling comfort needs. After a sale, to set up the job file, requisition the equipment, and review the scope of work to be done our job supervisor. After an installation, follow up to be sure all our work was done and answer any questions.
As an estimator/engineer: New installations — calculate required heating and cooling loads and air flows, select the proper equipment, and perform system design work for duct installation. Retrofit / replacement — inspect the existing equipment, its air distribution system, and the structure it serves. Obtain necessary measurements and related information in order to prepare and present an accurate job quote.
What do you enjoy most about your job:
Being able to educate and help our customers enjoy the real comfort and energy efficiency that the many features of today’s heating and cooling equipment and a well designed installation can provide. While essentially the “same job”, it never gets old. Each home or business that I visit presents different people to meet with and a brand new challenge. Simply put, folks want to know what Anderson Air Corps can do for them, and I’m here to help them. Our knowledgeable staff and experienced personnel always do their best to deliver quality installations and follow up service.
Mantra:
- Keep informed on the changes occurring in today’s forced air heating and cooling industry and marketplace. Also, knowledgeable on the installation requirements for the products we offer, and familiar with related building, energy, and mechanical codes.
- Educate potential customers and our existing clients to the ongoing changes in our industry (if they are interested). Explain the operation and much higher efficiency of today’s heating and cooling products, and what it means to them.
- Provide an accurate and fair estimate on the proper installation for the products that we provide, and systems that we install.
