Decode The “Mode” Button In Your HVAC Remote

HVAC systems in the past were very simple to operate with just an on and off switch and a high medium and low cooling or heating option. Just as technology has improved so has HVAC. HVAC systems today usually come with a remote control that has a “mode” button. The mode button however doesn’t do any good and could end up costing you a lot of extra money if you don’t know what those mode buttons mean and are meant to be used for. Our technicians here at Anderson Air Corps want to better educate you so that you will know how to operate your air conditioning system the way it is meant to be operated. Below you will find a list of modes that come on you HVAC remote and what each of them mean and are used for. We hope that you will find this article beneficial so that you will properly be able to operate your HVAC by the time you finish reading this.

Cool Mode

Cool mode is the regular or as some people call it the default mode in which the air conditioner runs depending on the temperature settings you have set your thermostat to. There is potential to save some electricity in this mode it however depends on the temperature you have the air conditioner set on. The ideal temperature for thermal comfort is twenty-five centigrade.

Fan Mode

When your air conditioner is set on fan mode the fan runs continuously and the compressor is cut off. This will obviously save you a lot of energy because the compressor is not running. The AC compressor is the most energy-consuming component of the air conditioner, however when the fan is cut on and the compressor is cut off there is no cooling going on. The fan basically just provides circulation inside your home.

Dry Mode

There are a couple of days during the year when comfort in your home just seems unachievable due to high humidity. This tends to happen more if you are located in a city that is closer to the sea. During those days just by removing the humidity you can notice a change in the comfort level of your home and running the air conditioner in dry mode will help remove the extra humidity that is lingering in the air. When the air conditioner is on dry mode the fan runs at a low speed and the compressor is on just for a smaller duration of time. Don’t however expect your air conditioner to blow a lot of cool air out on this mode though because this mode is just to dry the air out and not actually cool it.

Energy Or Power Save Mode

The energy or power save mode is the biggie that most people want to know about. In cool mode the compressor shuts off when the temperature reaches the set level but the fan continues to run. In energy or power saving mode even the fan will shut off, so since the fan is not running continuously it is a given that it saves a little bit of energy. We tend to get asked a lot here at Anderson Air Corps about the comfort level changing when the AC is in power save mode and there is nothing for you to worry about. The comfort level in your home should remain exactly the same matter of fact you shouldn’t even notice that your cooling system is set to power save mode.
